The Black Hole

Black Hole Sun??  That is what I keep thinking as I piece this block. Remember that song??  I used to hear it ALL the time back in the day by Soundgarden.  I may have liked it then.  Don't recall.

This block for the Lucky Stars BOM is truthfully called Black Hole Star.  I cut out all the pieces in one shot and then started making my triangle sections the same day.  I had 3 done and then I took a break and returned to it this morning to finish it off.

This is the first layout.  I am still using the same fabric lines of Little Apples by Aneela Hoey, some Art Gallery in pink and  a pink dot for contrast.

Second layout.  I did originally have it arranged with the 1st one being my choice.  Now I just don't know which is winning me over!

Hmmmmmmm........please let me know which ####### you like personally in the comments.  Pretty please!  Whichever one receives the most votes wins!!

For this paper pieced pattern, I did come across an issue with a couple of the pieces and decided to make them 1/4" bigger on one side and 1/8" bigger on the other.  They were originally 1x3 cut pieces.  This made my life easier.

I have looked around at others blogs that were attempting this block and I noticed that people were skeptical about those points all meeting up together and all the stitching going on there.  So I am going to take my time with the "connections" I will encounter.  It pays to be nosy sometimes ya know!!!

After the Black Hole Sun Star, I am onto May's BOM.  I will persevere.  Oh pretty please.

Oooooooh  Oooooooooh.....I want to show you what I bought at the NC Symposium from 2 weeks ago I think;)

These are from Linderella's Quilt Shop in Southern Pines,NC which is about 40 minute drive from me.  I have been there once.  I really, really must go back.  Such a cute, cute shop!  She was doing a special where you buy 5   1/2 yd cuts for $20!!  Eeeek I had to get some Tula Pink for that price.

Birds and Bees line:
Bees Knees in Forest
Tree of Life in Pool
Ladybugs in Apple
Meteor Shower in Olive

Salt Water line:
Tortoise Shell in Seaweed

Do you ever buy a line and think I like it---right?!!  There is a little questioning in the back of your mind, but you go ahead with the purchase anyhow.  That is what I did with these Tula prints.

Now I AM SERIOUSLY IN LOVE with them!!!!  I was looking around some fabric stores online making sure I had the correct name for each print before I added them into my post.  It was like "oooh I have that one,and that one!"  So. much. fun.

Although, now I just want the Swallow Skies in Storm from Birds and Bees.

Also....
I saw this print at 2 of the stores we visited in Cary,NC Tues. that I SHOULD have just grabbed.

This one I saw at one of the shops and didn't dive for it!  Geesh.  Geesh.  Geesh.

They look so wonderful in person!

When I first saw this line I adored it.  Then not so much.  NOW I adore it again.  Love hate relationship anyone?!  lol

I know ya'll are dying to hear about my adventures in Raleigh/Cary Tuesday!!!  I am going to keep you in suspense a bit longer due to some rain that we just started getting at this very moment.  I would like to take pics outside and show you my loot and the uuuuber sweet gift Pam got me!!!!!!

Due to the raindrops, I also am not able to get a pic of the other side of the double sided quilt for commission.  What a tongue twister!  :(  I am waiting for the flannel to come in the mail.  It is due for delivery on Mon. we shall see.

Don't forget to let me know which paper pieced Black Hole Star you admire best!!!

Thanks:)

"Black hole sun, won't you come, and wash away the rain?" Love that Soundgarden song! And I'd like some sun to wash away the rain about now.

Something else I love is that last print you showed in the indigo blue. Oh em gee, love!

I vote for the second one of your blocks.

The black hole #2 jumped out at me. It's got this structure that just really works - great job!

I felt the same way about Tula at first and now I'm seriously addicted! :) both layouts are beautiful but I think I like the turquoise and red center slightly better! Can't wait to see how it turns out :)

Can't wait to hear about meeting mama spark! Have you met her before? I followed one of her tutorials for a beautiful quilt I made as a baby shower gift. I vote for #2. It just popped out at me more.

I like the second one best! I think it sticks out to me more. (in a good way!). Also, I'm SUPER SUPER jealous of your Tula Pink! I don't have a lot of her fabric but I LOVE that print of the spheres from Birds and the Bees!

Geez, that's a hard decision. I like them both!! If you held a gun to my head, I would pick the second one, maybe. lol.

Yes, I remember that song. I was working at a tourist shop on Emerald Isle when it is popular. They played it at least once every 30 minutes. The title of your blog post made me wince even!

Both blocks are pretty but I'm leaning more for block #2. I love how it looks like rays are coming from the center. Great choice either way! I'm another fan of Tula Pink.

Which layout I like best, is difficult as I like them both. However, I think I like the second one best. Looking forward to seeing how this develops.

That is a hard decision... both black holes looks great, and I love how the pattern is reversible. I think I would pick #... 2.

I prefer the second block. The first one is sweet. The second one just looks fun! But, they are both wonderful.
